Comments from Former SYM Interns

“My internship showed me firsthand how apparent SYM culture is after only a short time involved. Everyone’s kindness and welcoming attitudes towards me was contagious and influenced how I treat others now, for the better.”

“The best part about my time as an intern with SYM was that I wasn’t treated like an intern! I was trusted to work on meaningful projects within every department to help propel the company forward.”

Courtney’s intern experience was full of real responsibility, genuine connection, and a culture that matched what she was promised and that clarity helped shape her career path after graduation.

“Interning at SYM Financial gave me a much clearer picture of what the financial advising industry entails. I started out curious about the advisory side, but ended up learning so much more – like how to build strong client relationships, understand investment strategies and trading, and get familiar with 401(k) plans, marketing, and HR. The team at SYM was incredibly supportive and always encouraged me to keep learning and growing, both professionally and personally.”

When Shane started his internship, he didn’t know what a fiduciary was, just that he wanted to be in financial planning. Fast forward: he’s now an Advisor and Owner at SYM!

Back then, the intern program was a bit of a DIY experience. He did everything from meeting prep to fixing the office toilet (true story). Today? Interns get hands-on exposure to every role at SYM, join client meetings, build mock financial plans, and receive mentorship from dedicated teammates.

Shane’s advice: “Be proactive. Explore different paths, and work to find one that isn’t just a job but is a career you are passionate about joining!”

“SYM’s summer internship is truly what solidified my career choice of financial advising as a college student at Purdue. During my two summers interning at SYM, I spent time shadowing, completing projects, and experiencing the great culture SYM offers to their employees. A valuable internship is the foundation of experiencing what you want in a career, employer and work-life culture. I now have the pleasure of leading our internship program, and I love being able to provide this same experience to our new interns each summer!”
